Brother DR-520 Drum Unit - Clear “Drum Near End” from the display?

The message "Drum Near End" will appear on the LCD display of the Brother machine when the drum unit is nearing the end of it's life. You may be able to continue printing with the message displayed, however, if there is a noticeable deterioration in the output print quality, then the drum unit should be replaced.

The drum unit, part number DR520, is a consumable item, and it is necessary to replace it periodically. There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as temperature, humidity, type of paper and how much toner you use for the number of pages per print job. The estimated drum life is approximately 25, 000 pages, when printing Letter or A4 size paper at 5% coverage. The actual number of pages your drum will print may be significantly less than these estimates. Because we have no control over the many factors that determine the actual drum life, we cannot guarantee a minimum number of pages that will be printed by your drum.

To view the remaining drum life, follow the steps below:
1. Press Menu, 7 (Machine Info), 3 (Parts Life)
2. Press 1 (Drum) to see the remaining % life.
3. Press Stop/Exit.

If the message continues to appear on the display after replacing the drum, reset the drum counter by following the steps listed below:
1. Open the front cover, and then press Clear/Back.
2. Press 1 and when the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.
