Brother WT-100CL Waste Toner

Brother WT-100CL Waste Toner
We have received several calls from customers where their Brother Waste Toner WT-100Cl, WT100CL, pictured above has not arrived in time, consequently the printer will not longer work until it is replaced. However we have a little fix that just might get you out of trouble not printing for the day. Hopefully you'll buy from us the toner in return for this free advice we've gathered. www.TheCartridgeCo.net

So onto the messy part. Roll up your sleeves, lay down some newspaper and be prepared for making some thing of a mess. With a little patience I think you'll survive a little toner dust about the place. You have been warned!

A little background first. What we do know after over 100,000 prints the printer will display the red light on the led with message "waste toner full - replace waste toner box". Toner that bypasses the print job and not used in the printing will be compacted into this waste unit, within the unit is a sensor (clear plastic panel (sorry no pictures) at the front of the box next the rollers.

The clear plastic panel (underneath the unit) is secured with two screws. When you lift it, watch for the two part foam rubber gasket which you will have to put back. Emptying is a messy job (the unit compacts the toner) and takes a lot of hard tapping to get it all out but, if you are used to shifting flour, expect the same sort of dusting!, it's no big problem. Re-assemble, flick that little lever on the front rod and replace the box - it's working fine for some and may need your attention again to make it right. I'm assured it does work.

So time to begin.
Now's time to address the clear plastic cover which can be removed easily with a screwdriver. Behind that clear plastic cover is where the waste toner contents need to be dumped. Take the entire case out using the two screws on the edge-end of the unit, not just the clear cover, so that you have the clear cover still attached. When you lift the clear plastic panel (underneath the box) watch for the two part foam rubber gasket which you will have to put back.

After taking that off, shake the waste toner out, tapping it gently with the broad end of a screw driver against what would have been the bottom side to free the jammed in toner. Emptying is a messy job and will take a lot of gentle tapping to get it all out! A vacuum cleaner would help too in getting the fine toner dust. Especially if you use an air can the blow back pressure will be much greater but you do have the ability to get the inside of the unit much cleaner. Suggest using the air can method outside!

You will need to clean this completely otherwise the sensor in the printer unit will detect that the unit is full.

Re-assemble everything, flick that little lever (axle with a black lever) on the front rod.  When the waste unit is full that lever is locked into a cam on the next axle,  if you push or lift the lever it disengages and I believe that resets the waste toner unit. Replace the box, turn on the printer - is it working?
Well done!

Beware! You cannot take enough precautions that all the dust will be everywhere. Do this in an area with plenty of ventilation, especially if you must use an air can at any time (not recommended).

HP 2600n Print Quality Issues

HP offers a troubleshooting page here

In addition consider the follow

The other thing you can do is send a blank page or 1 character on a sheet of paper to the printer and see if the defect is present.  If it is, then send a two page test of the same and after the first page comes out, quickly open the toner door and the second page will be lying on the black etb (Electrostatic Transfer Belt) and see if the defect is present on the unfused image click here.  If the defect is present it has to be one or more toners.  If the defect is not present, then the fuser may have an issue.  You need to also flip back the shutter of the toner cartridges that expose the drum and see if the lines are present on the drum as that would indicate the toner is bad.

If your toner cartridges are near the end of their duty cycles, it's likely that the waste hoppers on the colors that are appearing in the print defect are full, and toner is back-feeding onto the page.  If you raise the shutter on an offending cartridge, you will probably see toner on the drum that corresponds to the defect on your prints click here

What is the Brother Corona Wire

It is a very fine wire found at the top of the drum unit right next to the blue tab.

The electrically charged wire in a laser printer attracts toner from the drum onto the paper. Because of this process the wire can attract itself toner and thereby reducing the electric charge on the wire can produce a poor quality image. Brother suggest to slide the blue tab back and forth to clean the wire. Make sure the tab
is locked  in the home position, otherwise a vertical line can be produced.

Every time a toner is replaced clean the corona wire. If the Drum LED is ON after following the above steps, try cleaning the metal contacts (see below) with a dry lint-free soft cloth.

If the Paper LED is flashing after you cleaned the corona wire, please check to see if there is no paper jam. Or click here for more suggestions

If the Paper LED is flashing after you removed the jammed paper, turn on and off the machine power switch. If the Paper LED is still flashing click here for suggestions

If the Drum LED is flashing after you cleaned the corona wire, the drum unit is near the end of its life. We recommend that you obtain a new drum unit to replace the current one

Tip:
This product below makes the job of blowing toner off the corona a thorough job, then use the above method of sliding the tab. You will also find the duster useful for blowing toner dust out of the printer where it will collect over time. Of course  while you are at it....blow out your keyboard. You'll be surprised by the accumulation of debris under the keys.

Shipping Toner Cartridge

To ensure the maximum amount protection for your toner cartridge, please follow the shipping and packing information.

Packing Instructions image

Find a size appropriate box

If you must reuse a box, make sure it is rigid and in excellent condition with no punctures, tears, rips, or corner damage, and that all flaps are intact. Remove any labels and all other shipment markings from the box.

Packing Material:  Use these items, i.e. foam, newspaper, bubble wrap, plastic bags, or smashed end caps, as packing material to protect your shipment from damage.

Please do not use shredded paper for packing material

Pack items tightly in box and fill in empty spaces with packing material, if you hear items shifting, add more cushioning.

Mark the package “Fragile”

Placing an extra address label with the delivery and return addresses inside the package will ensure that the item can be delivered in case the outside label becomes damaged or falls off.

Wrap cartridge in newspaper, bubble wrap or other packing  material and place cartridge in large shipping box.

Provide 2" packing between box and toner.  Styrofoam or bubble wrap can be used to pad the space between the toner and the box, but items such as foam peanuts or plastic bags that create static should not be used.

It is important to fill all extra space in the shipping box with packing material so the  box holds its shape during shipment.

When shipment is ready, if  you can ship by UPS, Fedex, or USPS prepaid. You may request we arrange a shipping label at an extra cost.

Shipping cost estimates: West coast about $8,  Mid West $10, East Coast $10. USPS $12

Request a tracking number for your records. Please be sure to get a receipt if you drop off at a UPS, Fedex, USPS location. Do not call UPS to pickup or a $10.00 pickup fee will be charged to you by UPS.
